Abstract Dr. Ahmad
The Expression of Nicotinic /Muscarinic Receptors in the Outer Ventricular Zones
of the Developing Retina
Dr. Ahmad, will investigate the mechanisms underlying spontaneous activity in the ventricular zone by looking at the expression of cholinergic system in the developing retina of the rabbit, because acetylcholine has been shown to be critical in the formation of this activity. In particular, he will use immunohistochemical markers for cholinergic enzyme choline acetyltransferase (ChAT), and a battery of antibodies to label nicotinic and muscarinic receptors. It would be intriguing to see if ChAT activity and cholinergic receptor expression are developmentally regulated and are coordinated with the development of the spontaneous activity.
