Abstract Dr. J Denton

Title Adipocyte-macrophage interactions in obesity

Synopsis:

Visceral obesity is a major risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. An emerging paradigm is that macrophage infiltration into visceral fat establishes a vicious cycle of pro-inflammatory signaling that contributes to the development of the metabolic syndrome. I will discuss very recent work from our laboratory aimed at defining the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways that trigger adipose tissue inflammation in obesity.
